Hey Dancy, thank you for bringing this issue. Yes, indeed I shifted to a subdomain but one thing that I understood wrong was that the subdomain will apply for medium publication too. If you are publishing stories without medium publication, I wouldn't advise to get a subdomain as this will hurt your SEO but if you are publishing 99% of stories in medium publications then having a subdomain could help you easily pointing someone to your profile.
